Weekly Review: January 4th-10th

Remember the Rescue 7 AED lent to the Ghana Health Team Mission in November 2015? Check out the recap from Dr. Tom Filosa and team below:

I wanted to personally thank [Rescue 7] for lending the AED to the Ghana Health Team Mission that I was part of in November. Thanks to you the mission was an incredible success!

In all, I raised over $20,000 and the 4 Markham Family Health Team participants collectively raised over $40,000.

In our 2 weeks in Ghana, the medical, surgical, nursing, dental and eye teams were able to treat over 12,000 patients. We literally provided life-saving and vision-saving procedures to many of these patients. It was a tremendous experience for me personally and professionally and a very much needed intervention for the people of this region. Again, thank you for helping to contribute to this very meaningful and impactful cause.

If you are interested to learn more about the trip and the Ghana Health Team, I invite you to check out the following links:

  • Dr. Jennifer Wilson, the GHT leader, wrote a blog during our trip. She captures the essence of our experience and the emotion of the mission so well in these posts. Start on this page (second page of posts) at the bottom with the entry called ‘Ghana, Here We Come’. They are posted with the most recent at the top so start from this short one and work your way forward.
  • GRID, the Canadian-based NGO that organizes this trip, posted a short videowith photos of our mission this year, with the help of a photographer that accompanied us on our trip.
  • GRID has also produced a videoabout their goals in Ghana, including the construction of a hospital in the region. It’s 10 minutes well spent to watch this.

[…] Once again, on behalf of myself, GRID and the people of Northern Ghana, a big, heartfelt THANK YOU!

Sincerely, Dr. Tom Filosa
