Rescue 7 Weekly Review: July 27th-August 9th
From the entire team here at Rescue 7, we hope your long weekend was safe, fun and relaxing. Despite the nice (but short) break, we were busy all over the country and internationally. Check out what we’ve been up to for the past two weeks below!
Rescue 7 was pleased to attend the FIME conference in the sunny Miami Beach, Florida. This medical trade fair appealed to the healthcare market place, and Rescue 7 was proudly in attendance alongside Heartsine. Now in its 25th year, the FIME trade fair hosts over 10,000 industry professionals with the latest in medical equipment, medical technology, medical services, medical products and supplies. The Chase McEachern Memorial Fund is officially affiliated with Rescue 7! With John McEachern on board as a liaison between R7 and the general public, we are excited to help carry out Chase’s dream of having an AED in every school, hockey arena and essentially, in every public place. To date, the fund has been able to provide over 12,000 AEDs in schools and other community venues. Rescue 7 is extremely thrilled to be officially involved in continuing Chase’s legacy. The Barrie Red Sox Oldtimers Baseball Club, pictured above, has made an unprecedented decision that will benefit the safety of their players and any of their opponents. Aged 35 and above, various health issues from muscle pulls to more severe injuries have arisen. Two incidences, both occurring on the field, have prompted the team to invest in an AED. In July 2012, Neil Campbell died suddenly; in June 2014, a second player suffered a mild heart attack. The team approached John McEachern for guidance, who acted as a liaison between the team, the Chase McEachern fund and Rescue 7. After purchasing a Rescue 7 AED, the team released a statement with these comforting words:
“In our research of acquiring an AED we noted that a lot of work has been done by many organizations to ensure these life saving devices are available to people of all ages. We nare aware many schools and recreation centres already have AEDs located on their premises as local governments have strongly supported their value. The Barrie Red Sox Oldtimers are fortunate to have been able to acquire and benefit from securing our own AED for practices, games and for sharing with all other teams we meet. Acknowledging the security issues, hopefully AEDs will continue to be considered for active outdoor sports park facilities as well.”
Rescue 7 is a proud sponsor of a Toronto Football Club game happening on Sunday, September 13th at 5:00pm. $7.00 from each ticket sold for this game will go towards buying life-saving defibrillators for Toronto soccer fields. An amazing initiative that coincides perfectly with our involvement in the Chase McEachern Fund, the event will also involve a special pre-game event at the Rogers Club from 3:00 to 4:00pm. Rescue 7’s Online Blended Emergency First Aid Program is now approved in Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland! To find out if this course is right for you, read the description below:
First aid has traditionally been taught in a classroom style but at Rescue7
Inc. we know that people learn in different ways and at different speeds.
Our approved Blended Learning Emergency First Aid with CPR & AED training
session has been designed so that you can complete it at your own pace, in
your own time. Not only will you learn more effectively but you will also
have more fun learning.
The course has two components:
1. A first aid theory “Online” Component
2. A first aid practical classroom skills session Component
The on-line course covers all relevant theory the participant needs to
complete before taking the practical training session. Each of the modules
will be thoroughly explained with minimal technical terminology and include
a helpful quick review section. The theory may take up to eight hours to
complete, depending on knowledge base but remember – you do not have to do
the theory all in one go (a module a day is probably the fastest you would
want to complete to maximize your learning). You can come and go as you
please with this theory component so if you are interrupted just log out and
log back in when you have more time.
You must complete the On-Line Theory Based Session before you can
participate in the Practical Training session. We recommend that you aim to
finish it at least a week before your practical training session. The whole
course must not take longer than 30 days. If you have any questions while
working on the course you can e-mail us using the contacts screen and we
will endeavor to answer you within 24 hours.
Once you have completed your theory course you are ready for your Practical
Training session. The Practical Training session must be taken within two
(2) weeks of from the last-possible date of completion of the On-Line Theory
Based Session. Rescue 7 will booked the Day-2 Practical Training session and
then thirty (30) days prior to the Day-2 Practical Training, on-line access
codes will be issued to the client. At this Practical Training session an
accredited Rescue7 Inc. instructor will be able to answer any questions that
you have as a result of the theory course and will then demonstrate a number
of techniques, including: emergency scene management, shock, unconscious and
fainting, adult choking, severe bleeding and much more. Participants
attending the Day-2 Practical Training will be given a Day-2 recap quiz to
review everything the participant learned online, and only those with a
passing mark will be able to participant in the Practical Training session.
Passing mark on the Day-2 Recap Quiz is least 50 percent.
Participants will gain knowledge in the following areas:
• Legalities
• Disease Management & Biohazards
• The Emergency Medical Services System
• Scene Management
• Head, Spine and Pelvic Injuries
• Bleeding Management and Shock
• Cardiovascular Emergencies
• Sudden Medical Conditions
• Airway and Breathing Emergencies
• CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)
• AED training
Certification Requirement
• Complete the applicable online session. *Participants must bring
on-line certificate for instructors to cross reference against class list
given by Rescue 7 Inc.
• Correctly answer at least 80 percent of the questions of the online
quiz.
• Correctly answer at least 50 percent of the questions of the Day-2
Recap Quiz.
• Attend and participate in the practice training session for the
course.
• Demonstrate competency in all required skills listed on the within
the instructor’s manual
• Correctly answer at least 80 percent of the questions of the Day-2
Final Quiz.
Certifications:
Participants who successfully complete the Blended Learning course will
receive the corresponding Emergency First Aid, CPR & AED certificate.
Blended Learning certification is valid for: three (3) years for First Aid.
